Dr. Kadek Eva Krishna Adnyani S.S., M.Si., commonly known as Eva sensei, is a lecturer in the Japanese Language Education Program at Undiksha who participated in the postdoctoral program in 2022 organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. The postdoctoral program involves the mobilization of lecturers to conduct research and enhance their knowledge and competencies in their field of expertise over a period of three months.

Several steps were taken to qualify for this program, including gathering information about the program, completing the necessary requirements, and participating in document selection and interviews.
During her visiting researcher period from September to December 2022, Eva sensei explored new knowledge and gained fascinating experiences at Kanto Gakuin University in Yokohama Prefecture, Japan. She began by adapting to the new environment both on and off campus, while continuously monitoring the weather forecast due to the extreme weather conditions in Japan, which differ significantly from the climate in Indonesia. Additionally, her observations of Japanese customs provided insights and broadened her perspective on the socio-cultural differences between Japan and Indonesia. For example, she noted how elderly individuals in Japan remain engaged in productive activities, the application of “uchi” and “soto” in Japanese culture, Japanese etiquette regarding priority seating on trains, and the cultural importance of punctuality in Japan.
Equally exciting, the activities she engaged in during her time in Japan enriched her experience significantly. Some of these activities included collaborative research, participating in study groups with international researchers in linguistics and sociolinguistics, sitting in on classes, serving as a guest speaker in several classes, conducting library research, and collaborating with the International Office to discuss a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), among other activities.

“Of course, I am very happy and impressed after participating in this program for three months at Kanto Gakuin University. Through this program, I was able to enhance my knowledge and competencies in research and update myself with new insights about Japan in the present day,” she stated.
“My message to students is that when there are new opportunities, don’t hesitate to try and pursue them,” she continued with a radiant smile at the end of the interview in the lecturer’s room at the Faculty of Languages and Arts, Undiksha. (01/24/2023)
